Kathleen Beall, President

Kathleen Beall is a retired lawyer. Law was her second career.

She has a B.Sc. honours (biology and chemistry) and a B.A. (philosophy) from Dalhousie University and worked for a few years as a biochemistry research assistant and as an analytical chemist.

 

She then decided to go to law school and received an LL.B. and an LL.M. from Dalhousie University. In 1986 she joined the public service as a lawyer with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General.

 

Her legal career spanned over 20 years in the areas of legislative and regulatory development and drafting, administrative law and administrative tribunal practice and procedure, along with several specific areas of law including occupational health and safety, employment, employment equity, aboriginal, mining, and oil and gas.

 

The majority of her legal career was with the Ontario pubic service where she provided legal and legal policy advice to the Ontario government and senior government officials and was the director of a legal branch. She also spent a few years with Justice Canada where she was the director of two legal service branches and General Counsel to the National Energy Board.

 

Kathleen and her husband, Arthur Gladstone, moved to a farm near Argyle in 2007 where they have pastures, hay fields, a working maple sugar bush, provincially significant wetlands and, until recently, horses.

 

Since moving to Kawartha Lakes she has been active in several local organizations including Women’s Institute and Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes and on the Board of Directors of local volunteer organizations including Women’s Resources, Kawartha Lakes Food Source and Community Legal Clinic - Simcoe, Haliburton, City of Kawartha Lakes.

 

Kathleen loves to travel and has been to every continent except Antarctica. She also is an avid gardener and reader and loves music.

 

She has two stepsons and three granddaughters.
