Steve Strangway, President

Steve Strangway.png

Steve was born and raised in Toronto where he attended Allenby Public School and then Northern Secondary School. After high school Steve spent one year at Toronto Teachers College and enjoyed seven years teaching for the North York Board of Education at Summit Heights and Forest Manor Public Schools.

Steve and his wife Marion made the decision in 1975 to move to Orillia where he spent twenty five years as a teacher, vice-principal and principal in a variety of local schools. During this time Steve received degrees from York University and the University of Toronto.

In 1996 Steve and Marion decided to move to the family cottage on Balsam Lake and rebuild their retirement home. The idea was to live here most of the year but maintain a condo in Orillia. Following one winter at the Lake the idea of a second residence in Orillia was quickly forgotten.

Following retirement from education Steve entered the boat business obtaining the Canadian distributorship for Hacker-Craft boats. Hacker-Craft are the wooden mahogany launches that were originally built in the 1920's and are still built today in the Lake George area of upstate New York.

In 2006 Steve was successful in being elected to Kawartha Lakes Council and has thoroughly enjoyed his 12 years representing the residents of Ward 5.

Steve and Marion have two married children and three grandsons who love spending summers at the cottage.  “They keep us feeling young which is wonderful!”  Steve and Marion are looking forward to retirement and spending more time with the PROBUS Club of Fenelon Falls.

Steve is now retired from politics and his looking forward to his role as President of our Probus Club.
